Windows default printer changes

By scook ·
This happens in one user with Win2k and one with XP. When a different printer (than the Windows default) is selected in a given application (happens in any), this selected printer becomes the windows default printer. Why does this happen and how can I prevent it?

What application is this?

It happens in all applications. So I don't think it's application specific. The users who noticed it first, noticed it when they switched to the Adobe PDF "printer" within our tax compliance software. But the behavior happens in any windows app, switching to any printer.

This may be a bit obvious - are the users hitting the - use as default button rather than the ok.
