When I try to install Windows Defender, I get the following error message:
Service “Windows Defender” failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
There is only one user on this system and it has Admin privileges.

I previously had the following programs installed on the computer:
-AVG Free Anti-Virus 7.5
-Windows Defender
-Zone Alarm Free Firewall
-Ad aware 2007
Because AVG 7.5 will no longer be supported after May 31, I tried to upgraded to Version 8.0 and failed. (avgwdsvc.exe wouldn’t start). In an attempt to get it installed, I removed all of the above listed programs and cleaned my registry. It still wouldn’t install. After 2 days of frustration, I gave up and installed Avast A/V successfully. Now I’m trying to reinstall the other programs. All installed except Defender.
Any ideas?
