Windows ? Delayed Write Failed.

by bldsm . Updated 19 years, 12 months ago

Hello

I am using a Compaq 9010 laptop which has a 3.0GB CPU, 768MB RAM and a 30GB HDD, Win XP Pro. I have an external USB2 160GB hard drive partioned into 2 80GB drives (in control panel / system / device manager / properties its called a “WDC WD16 00BB-00FTA0 USB DRIVE”) and it has a USB2 or DV connection to the laptop. I also have an external DVD Writer x 4.

I use a trial edition of Adobe Premier Pro 2.0 and have created a 3 min 32 sec movie downloaded off our DV Video Camera. It downloaded to the Ext 160GB HDD perfectly.

When I go to EXPORT / MOVIE to one of the partitions on the Ext 160GB HDD it will process for about 5 mins or 35MB then fail displaying a “write disk error” and the computer will lose its connection with the hard drive. Only rebooting the hard drive will re-establish the connection.

However I can copy huge multi GB files from the laptop to the Ext 160GB HDD using Windows Explorer without problem and can transfer files off the Ext 160GB HDD to other PCs and back again without problem.

The write fail error occurs both when the ext hdd is connected by DV or USB2.

I have done a chkdsk and defrehs on the Hello
