Windows display settings

By drice ·
I have experienced this problem at work, and I am not sure how to handle it. Someone set their background in Windows 98 to a specific setting (picture of her children). Now everytime she reboots the background setting is lost. Any ideas on how to address this problem ???

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi, Is it possible that the user set up the background logged on as a user and is bypassing the log on now or vice versa? Hope this helps.

I experienced this very problem on a 98 platform as well. Each time I rebooted, my 'customized' wallpaper needed to be reset. This did not occur with the Windows default backgrounds, though. I also tried logging in with other users' ids, this did not work. I left that gig b4 I ever resolved this.

Is this machine a network-connected machine? If so, does the network boot policy store the settings? On an NT domain (including Win2k), environment changes may or may not be saved when a user logs off; this is a configurable setting.

If not, doesthe user have administrative privileges on the local machine? Does the user have write access to the C:/WINDOWS/ directory? Does the machine have a non-trivial security policy (e.g., does it discard changes to system directories on shutdown)?
