Windows does not support 9600 baud

Recently upgraded a desktop machine that uses Ice Ten to do a serial connection to a unix server. I have the current version of Ice ten and to date it has worked well. When trying on the new XP box I get an error “Windows does not support 9600 baud”. Ice ten is configured to communicate at 9600 baud but changing it gets the same message with a different baud rate. J River, the Ice Ten manufacturer shrugged their sholders. Any thoughts?
