Windows doesnt load after the loading screen

Last night, went to sleep after shutting down the computer (it asked to install an update of sorts, didnt bother to catch what it was). In the morning when I was trying to turn on my computer, it loads till the loading screen (Windows XP), but doesnt come up to the profile choosing screen. I tried to load it in Safe Mode, but that doesnt seem to be working either. I read a couple posts where this seems to happen, concerning video drivers, but solutions to those involve safe mode, which doesnt even load for me.
