Windows Domain DNS pointer addresses

By tigerwhatwoods ·
I have a large network with a few hundred windows workstations. All the workstations are in a windows 2003 domain with multiple domain controllers. I've got one of the domain controllers as the DNS and DHCP server. The problem I'm trying to solve is reverse DNS lookups. For every workstation that acquires a DHCP address a DNS entry gets created for that workstation. But the DNS entry is only a forward lookup. I would like all the forward DNS entries to automatically create a Reverse or "pointer" entry. Is this possible?

Create the appropriate reverse lookup zones in your DNS server(s), and then there's a setting in the DHCP mmc on the DHCP Server object / Properties / DNS tab, to force registration of the PTR record as well.
