I receive the error cannot update file %1 %2 etc on start up.
I renamed the wininit.ini file and this has enables me to boot to windows. Windows is usable.
However when I attempt to use windows update the same message appears at start up. It hasnow got an OK box which when clicked disapears and allows windows to load.
There are a number of problems with windows update however: the comulative patch for internet explorer appears in the list of required downloads. At the end of the downloadwindows update site states the file was not installed and to return to windows update scan and try again. when I look at the files on the system it states that the comulative patch has been installed ok.?
also on the office update site I receive amessage on downloading updates “The MSIEXEC.EXE file is linked to missing MSI.DLL:222.
Has anyone some suggestions as to what’s going on and my best course of action.
The system is a Dell using Windows ME.
