Windows Explorer crashes Win2k pro

By jvalsamis ·
Every time I do a fresh boot I try to open windows explorer either by double clicking on my computer or from under the program menu Icon, explorer crashes and refreshes my desktop. At that point I do it again and it works fine. I am using in Win2k pro - service pack 3 -IE60. Does anyone have any ideas? The only thing I can think of doing is a total fresh install of O/S. I would like to avoid this but do I have a Choice? Thanks

This is the same problem I was having.
It all started after I put IE 6.0 on.
At the time I was still on service pak 2.

I finally ended up reloading the computer and just installed IE 5.5 sp2.

Back-up all your files and fresh install. Nothing you can do now since you already install IE6.0, and never go back to IE6, just use IE5.0 or 5.5

Well you can try to fix this, as I had the same problem. You can do a repair with your win2k disk or if you have your ERD'S it would be faster and easier. You see when you run your reapir it always looks at explorer might have problems being your shell and all. If you would rather try an easier route yet you can run regclean which you can download from download.com
Good Luck! and be sure to back up

I have some doubts about IE6 being the culprit in this situation. I wondered if I just hadn't been observant so I tried to duplicate the problem on my Toshiba notebook loaded with W2K Pro SP3, IE6 SP1 and could not duplicate the problem. I suspectthe real culprit is some other software.

Thanks I like at every possible every program installed, but not a thing turned up. I did find the same problem after I reformatted the drive and reinstalled Win2k with Sp3 included that i had the same problem but this was version IE5.00 that came on the disk I upgrade to IE6 with sp1 and the error went away crazy dont you think. I installed IE6 with sp1 on system before I reformatted and that didnt help.
