windows explorer error message

by Sandys_Bargain_Barn In reply to windows explorer error me ...

I am having the exact same problem. Did you ever find out what the problem was? I have not been able to find out anything anywhere. I have done virus and spy scans and come up with nothing.
Every single time I bring up my windows explorer and open a folder up it errors out and closes on me with the same ole error message over and over and then freezes my machine until I clear the folders out.
It's so frustrating.

I am curious

When this happens do you get the option to send an error report an if so, what does it tell you. Also, have you tried checking the event logs to see what infomation it contains? Sometimes the information can be very vague and other times it will take you right to the problem.

Possible fix

by IC-IT In reply to windows explorer error me ...

We had this on a few systems that obtained a video driver update from Microsoft Update.
The problem was actually a context menu handler caused by the update to the intel graphics card. Thusley right-click equals explorer error.
Download a new driver (or do a rollback) uninstall the old driver and re-install the new.
You may want to verify that this is the cause by uninstalling the driver and attempting a right-click.
If that is not the root cause, you may want to download autoruns, sort by type and disable context menu handlers one by one to determine the culprit.
