Windows Explorer File Menu

By mikelgriggs ·
I had an interesting question asked by a user the other day, concerning the Windows Explorer File Menu. The user wanted to know how to add and remove programs from the File>New menu options group (the one where you create new folders, shortcuts, text docs, etc.). It seems that he/she has so many installed programs which have added themselves to this list that it takes alot of time for the menu to expand itself when they go to create a new folder. You would think that it would be simular to the Send To feature and have its own folder, but it does not, so I'm guessing that its a registry setting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a CLSID entry in hte registry. Although I can't remember exactly where, I had to do a search on New Microsoft word Document to find it for a different problem.

I'm not sure if there is a utility within tweakui to do something like thisor not.

Good luck to you

The answer above is correct. The (FREE) utility called TweakUI does offer a way to add program type to the new menu. You can download it here
