Windows explorer folders don't refresh

By pcmaster ·
This has been an ongoing problem I've just lived with, but shouldn't have to. The OS is Win2K Pro.

When Windows explorer is open, if I change a folder name or add a folder to the right side panel, the change isn't reflected in the left panel where the folders list. I have to close explorer and reopen it to get the change to occur. I've used F5 and the 'refresh' selection in the upper menu to no avail. Anyone have a fix for this? Thanks.

Windows explorer folders don't refresh

by sherwinpsanchez In reply to Windows explorer folders ...

this one works for me, this is a tip from the Windows Registry Guide 3.4...

Automatic Window Refresh (Normally when the contents of a window change you may need to wait a few seconds, or press F5, to refresh the display to see the updated information. This tweak configures the system to perform faster automatic updates.

Open your registry and find the key below.

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, named "UpdateMode" and set it to equal "0" for faster updates.

Restart Windows for the change to take effect.
--------------------------------------------------
Settings:
Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
Control\Update]
Name: UpdateMode
Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value: default = 1
--------------------------------------------------

That's it! :)
