Windows explorer folders don’t refresh

This has been an ongoing problem I’ve just lived with, but shouldn’t have to. The OS is Win2K Pro.

When Windows explorer is open, if I change a folder name or add a folder to the right side panel, the change isn’t reflected in the left panel where the folders list. I have to close explorer and reopen it to get the change to occur. I’ve used F5 and the ‘refresh’ selection in the upper menu to no avail. Anyone have a fix for this? Thanks.
