Windows Explorer hangs on search

By dgsubs ·
Since the most recent Windows update (I'm running SP2), I've been unable to search within Explorer. The dog just sits there and when I pull up Windows Task Manager, it verifies that Explorer is not responding. What settings do I need to tweak?

Links were not relevant.

It is WINDOWS Explorer that hangs, not IE.

First remove all Spyware/Adware and Viruses.

Does you PC meet the minimum hardware requirements for XP.

Do you have enough free disk space?

Does it hang in Safe Mode?

Windows explorer

Re: SEARCH function on Windows Explorer does not work

May be you can try this regedit .... run regedit and find this entry :

It'll probably have value set to "01 00 00 00" ... you should change it to "00 00 00 00"

Thank you, Black Panther. My first reaction was that I was secure to the hilt, but I hadn't run my adaware or spybot recently, so I tried to do so, only to find they were uninstalled. Don't know if I did that prior to installing Norton Internet Security or not, but after reinstalling them, both found some little buggers -- nothing heinous, but PC-slowing. I still have to wait a bit before clicking to start the search, but at least it's not hanging anymore. If it continues, I'll try the regedit ploy. Thanks again!
