Windows Explorer right click menu

By dwymer ·
Can anyone tell me how to edit the right click menu in Windows Explorer ? When I right click a folder/file in the left pane, I see some prgrams have added items, such as 'Save to zip archive' or 'Play with Winamp'. How can I delete these examples ofsloppy, arrogant, user UNfriendly programming ?

Use TweakUI 2000. You can get it from www.nonags.com. It's freeware, easy to use,and has lots of other capablilities for fine tuning your system. VERY HANDY!!!

It will work with Win 95/98/ME. When you start it, across the top will be a set of tabs. One is the NEW tab. In there, you can use that to remove any unwanted things from the right click menu. I did!!!
Also note to be careful what you do with TweakUI 2000. Some adjustments that it can do might cause some other minor problems like hiding drives in My Computer. This is really a warning for the completely "Technically Impaired"!!!

Have Fun!!

If you want the quick and dirty way to get rid of those items, and you're confident with the registry, use Regedit.
The right-click menu (when you right-click the Start button) is located inside HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\.
The one for Explorer is inside
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\Shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\.

Note that the menu items may not be worded verbatim in the registry. You may see the software company name, which will tip you off. Just delete that folder. You will see the change immediately.
If the items still come up, then do a search for the offending menu item in question.
Then delete....

Just say NO to these invasions!
Hope this helps....

Thanks, that did it. I assumed right from the start that this would take a Registry hack..
