I have explorer set up to open to a directory of my own choosing when I launch from the start menu. How can I set up a similar situation when I launch explorer from a right click of the start Button?? what is the registry key???

    thanks, mark

Go to HKey_Classes_Root\Folder\Shell (via regedit)and you will see commands for explore and open that you get from right clicking on start.

1.You need to create a new Key e.g. named Temp within the above folder. Temp will be the name that appears when you right click onto start
2.Create a new key within Temp called Command.
3.Change the default setting in Command to c:\WINDOWS\Explorer.exe /e,/idlist,%I,%L,c:\windows\temp

The c:\windows\temp command above will open Windows Explorer in that folder.

      Regards.

The anwer moj gave was right on the money. The only caveat I would add is to remember things are case sensitive. I had to mess around with spacing as well. But it took me only a second try at the command statement to get her working right.

One other thing. This method ADDS a selction to the right click menu for the start button. One could simply edit the existing statement in the HKey_Classes_Root\Folder\Shell\Explorer Key and achieve the same task.

        Thanks to moj!
