Windows Haning With AGP

By ssoois ·
My pc was very stable, and hardly ever had a hanging problem. Ever since I've installed a Savage4 32MB AGP card, it started hanging. If I put the performance to almost minimum, it becomes more stable, but the quality is poor. I've got an Intel Pentium II, 350 MHz with 128 MB Ram. The motherboard model is unfortunately unknown to me. Please help me with this hanging problem.

Check the hardware compatibility list to see if the card is compatible with your system
Go to the manufacturer's web site and download the updated drivers to the sound card, then check for any fixes that may be listed on the card

Go to www.motherboards.org and use the tools to identify your motherboard.

Then, download and install the latest chipset drivers for your board. (either from the motherboard mfg, or the chipset mfg)

Install DirectX 8.1 (Microsoft)

Make surethat you have the latest drivers for the card (www.s3graphics.com) or the card mfg.

If you are still having problems, there may be "remnants" of the old video card around.
Did you remove the card from device manager before you shut the system down to physically remove the card?

You may need to search the registry, and remove keys that pertain to the old card.
CAUTION: improper registry editing can disable your system.

Also, check add/remove programs for programs that were installed by the old card.

Finally, I have 2 Intel based systems where I was not able to get a Savage 4 based video card to function. (1 AGP PIII, 1 PCI P MMX)
I finally ended up installing an Nvidia card in 1, and an ATI in the other.
