Do HP LaserJet printers/print drivers send a "reset" command at the conclusion of each Windows' print job? I'm looking to share an HPLJ 4000 between two PCs using an electronic printer switch. PC #1 must use the font that has been selected in the printer's set-up menu. PC #2 is a Windows 95/98 PC and will be generating print jobs from a number of Windows apps. At the conclusion of the Windows print job, will the printer be reset to it's internal defaults (which will make it ready to be used by PC #1)?

The DOS machine must rely on the internal settings of the printer for control as no control codes are being sent to the printer by the DOS-based PC. In other words, the DOS-based PC does not have any settings to send to the printer.
I go with the first answer, because you state that the printer that prints from dos needs the internal settings. I agree so set up the printer for the Dos machine as normal. Then the win9x pc can select and use the settings it desires each print job, which doesnt change the printers default's it only changes the settings for that particular print job.
