Start by downloading and installing the latest update to Windows Installer from Microsoft.

If that does not take care of the problem, make sure that ALL running programs are closed.
This includes your anti-virus and firewall programs.
You should have NO icons on the taskbar or system tray when installing software.

If this application performs the same function as some other software on your system, you may need to un-install the other application first.

This looks to be a problem with either the installer [say install shield] or if you do not have sufficient rights/permissions on the unit to install the software.

First best thing to do is to ensure that there you close all the applications shown in the systray. Also, use Start- Run - type MSCONFIG and click OK, then click Startup tab and click 'Disable all'button. Click Apply & Ok to restart the computer. now try to install the software. This ensures that there is no other software engaging the installer or that there is no second instance of the installer is available.

The next thing to do is to check with the System administrator for install permissions and you may check the permissions on the "Program Files" folder.

This should help.
