Windows installer

By Bra-k ·
Where is the "staging area" for the windows installer. What I mean by that is when you open a program the Windows installer knows to pop up and ask you to install a program. I have serveral users that are having the same MSI trying to install when they open different programs. The MSI file has nothing to do with the program they are opening. For example SAP.SystemUpdate.msi is trying to install when one user tries to open Word, and it tries to install when another user opens Documentum...

How can I get rid of this?

Thanks,
Bra-k

am looking for your answer at developers at www.microsoft.com but in meantime my 2 cents is sounds like something didn't finish installing. have you diddled with user rights lately? can you login as admin and see if that will 'finish' the install maybe or temporarily give user local admin rights or power user rights so install can 'finish' under their profile...just whistling thru my hat...

It is not a permissions issue. I have installed all software as admin. equiv. Also I am running W2K and XP on machines that are having this problem. Also I have run all MS updates available from MS and still the problem persist. I have found if I search the reg for "systemupdate.msi" I can remove that entry, but then the installer window will still flash and go away. By doing that reg hack if does not stop and ask for the directory, but it still flashes the installer popup window

I think you should install the lastest windows installer, your machine will look for the last product it was installed from. This typically happens after you uninstall some product.
