I found Q260404 article helpful. How to Troublehoot WI Engine problems. Windows 2000 Professional, Services, Windows Installer Service. Properties. In the ‘path to executable’ is
C:\WINNT\system32\msiexec.exe /V
I don’t think the /V is supposed to be there. How do I edit that out??
I have used the Recovery Consule to rename msi.dll, msiexec.exe and mshnd.dll and EXTRACT all the same from the original Win2000Pro CD. Still the same error.
“Could not start the windows installer on Local Computer”
“Error 2. The system could not find the file specified.
Now I cannot install or remove programs, nor some of installed software will not execute, like Office2000 or PC Cillan Anti-virus.
