Windows Internet Explorer 5.5 not working

By NLane126 ·
Windows Internet explorer 5.5 will not let me surf, everything I click on it it says The page can not be dislplayed. What do I need to do to correct this I tried to uninstall it, and with the 98 CD the computer tried to fit it but it's still not working, I had several viruses on the computer that have been removed from the sofunny.exe, love.exe,lovebug.exe and msdos423,ini and msdos423.exe all have been removed when I install Norton's 2002 So what is the next step to getting my computer to surf.I had installed Netscape in the past and it worked. I have AOL and it still won't surf in their browser either.

use netscape, and go to , search for internet explorer, download and reinstall the latest version, most likely cleaning all those viruses damaged some IE files.

Your Windows 98 CD has either IE4 or IE 5 on it.

The only source that I know of for IE 5.5 is the browser archive at

It is a 76MB download!

The only browser version that you can get from Microsoft is IE 6 SP1.
I would advise against this for a W98 system.
I have seen far to many systems have problems with IE6.

Another thing you should do, is run System File Checker.
This will replace missing and corrupt system files.
Insert your W98 CD.
Exit the W98 CD menu.
From the run box on the start menu, run sfc
