For the time being

by seanferd In reply to Windows Internet Explorer ...

until this is resolved, try another web browser, if allowed. Firefox, Opera, Chrome (or Iron) work well.

Is there any error message aside from the "Not responding"? Can you check your event logs (Event Viewer) for errors which might be reported there?

Which version of IE is it?

Do you have any add-ons installed for IE? If so, try disabling them and see if the problem persists.

Have you tried a repair install of IE? Most versions I recall have Repair as an option in the Programs and Features control panel upon selecting IE from the list.

Try a reset

by tintoman In reply to For the time being

Start > Control panel > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Reset Button
This takes IE back to the default settings at the time of installation and disables all add-ons. Beware though it also removes any saved user names and passwords for internet sites.

Thanks for the clear instructions

by Scrabbledemon In reply to Try a reset

Internet Explorer stopped working last night, and all the other tips I found elsewhere were of no help to me.

Your instructions were what I needed, and now IE is up and running.

Even though I may never understand why it stopped working, I now know what to do when (and with Microsoft it's most certainly when and not if) this happens again.

Some one solved your problem? It's considered only polite to give that person a thumbs up!

Internet Explorer not responding

by kristain In reply to Windows Internet Explorer ...

This issue may be caused by some add-ons. As a result, please reset the IE settings to disable add-ons:
1. Close any IE or Windows Explorer windows that are currently open.
2. Open a new IE window.
3. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
5. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
6. When Internet Explorer finishes restoring the settings, click Close, and then click OK.
7. Close IE. (The changes will take effect the next time you open IE.)
