Windows Lock-up

By npike ·
I am running a Compaq Presario 1681 Notebook w/ Windows 95, MS Office 2000 Premuim using Outlook 2000 for mail and exchange. When I close out the IE 5 and then close out Outlook 2000 similtaneously, then try to close off the connection I will get a windows lock-up. I must wait for all programs to close first before I can disconnect the modem. Occasionally Outlook will auto disconnect, but the majority of the time I have to manually do so. Can you tell me what might be happening here?

Outlook remians connected to the outgoing phone line until the program is closed. One of the things I've noticed is that the connection seems to remain open until the program is completely closed. I can't really recommend anything to fix it, however.

I would try to close the connection to the internet first and see what happens when you do.

Outlook is very proprietary about your dialup connections, and this can cause issues with other programs (In this case IE) that also have a certain proprietary hold over dial-on-demand. In O2k's tools>accounts, in the mail account properties set itto connect via LAN, or uncheck the 'Always connect to this account using' field if that's in your version. Also go into the tools>options menu, connection tab, and ensure that "disconnect adter..." is not checked. Then. go into your internet options from the control panel and configure the 'connections' tab to use the dialup whenever a dialup isn't already present. Clears up the problem in lots of cases. Also, what revision of MS DUN are you running?
