Windows Logon Password Problem.

By cglrcng ·
Windows ME Logon Password question all.

Have a friend that has an HP Pavilion x1953, his Windows Logon came up after an accidental Log Off. Somehow he entered his user name and changed the password and can't remember it, have tried everything and can't seem to hit on the right combination.

Anyone have a workaround idea? I can't seem to get him back onto his home network due to it. Can use the dial-up feature, but the NIC won't recognize him logged on as "anyuser".

Just one more note...The "Passwords Dialog Box" only has one Tab instead of 2 "the one listed is User Profiles" and there is no "Change Passwords" tab. There are no other profiles.

What version of Windows is your friend using? Try typing in a new user name & then leaving the password field blank. Then hit enter. Hope this helps!

Witn Windows ME, you should be able to hit cancel at the logon screen. After this search for all "*.pwl" files and delete the one for his username.

Reboot the system and you can then enter a new password for that username.
