Windows ME

Yes, but it will complain. And no matter what route works for your, you should PLAN on re-installing ALL of your apps. I know, it's NOT what you wanted to hear, but it's the Bill-awful truth.

Assuming you want to get rid of ME, and go back to Win98, you have to fool the Win98 setup into not recognising that you have the newer (and, in M$' opinion, obviously 'superior') version of Windoze(tm).

First: take a couple of real good backups, and locate ALL of your apllication install media. You will need it all.

I have heard that you can boot the WinME system into DOS, with CD support and just run the Win98 setup. This did not work for me.

I have heard that you can intentionally "corrupt" the WinME install, by deleting some key Windoze(tm) files. Like win.ini, for example. Then from DOS, run Win98 Setup. I saw this work once after the whole "Windows" root directory was deleted.

I highly recommend getting out our old friend FDISK and just starting fresh. I know, but the advantage is that it's like running a real good defrag when you reload the whole damn system.

Oh, did I suggest a real good backup? Take a 2nd one, just to be safe.
