Everytime I drefrag my Pc, my windows Me crash. I get this Messages ” My resource are extremely low”, and I get multiple page faults, where i are not able to open Window explore. and I got to re-install windows
Q: Is there a fix or pach to solve this problem.

How’s your RAM and free hard disk space? Increase your RAM and make sure you have sufficient free HD space. You may also add some virtual memory.

The page faults are a function of the swap space on your hard drive. Windows is using part of the drive for memory swapping and when you do a defrag, it gets all messed up. Try this: before you defrag, disable the virtual memory. Then after defragging, recreate virtual momory of a fixed size and it will be all contiguous space for better performance.

P.S. If you disable virtual memory, you get a very intimidating message saying your computer may not start up. I have done this procedure many times and it has always started up just fine.

The answer to my question was in windows update. MS does provide a hotfix to this problem.

YES! There is a known bug with Windows ME and defrag. You have to go to windows update and take care of it from there. MS does provide a patch on product updates from their web site.
