Windows ME & data projector

I am attempting to get various laptops running Windows ME to drive a data projector connected to the monitor out port. All seems ok until the Windows ME drivers load, and then NOTHING!. This is with all makes of laptops and projectors. Any ideas?? Running the “find projector wizard” is no use at all.
