My computer has a 40G HDD partitioned into 4 drives.It will not boot up. Using On Track Disk Fixer I found all the drives are still there.When I boot up the computer and decide on SAFE MODE boot the following messages appear:
The following file is missing or corrupt: C:\WINDOWS\NLSFUNC.SYS
Ditto C:\WINDOWS\DISPLAY.SYS
Ditto C:\WINDOWS\IFSHLP.SYS
Then a blue screen appears with the message The Microsoft Installable File Manager System cannot find the helper file. Please ensure that IFSHLP.SYS has been installed. System Halted.
If I choose the NORMAL option then I get the same message of the 3 missing or corrupted files, then the message : Cannot set the code page(s) in DISPLAY.SYS. I have tried extracting the 3 files from the Windows ME CD ROM, I have tried the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article Q258471 but when I restart Windows ME in SAFE MODE and NORMAL mode the same error messages come up. I have also re-installed Windows ME but no change.
