Windows ME problem restoring

By chesnut76 ·
For some unknown reason I started getting a error message when I booted up my computer, that said it could not find boot devise or something like that. I finally was able to get it to a point where I could restore the Windows ME and some other applications. When I ran a Scandisk it came back on my hard drive with some bad sectors. How can I fix that or is there some utility I can run on my computer that will give me a list of problems and how to fix them? I can not seem to get my printer to work now or connect to the Internet.

Words to the effect of: "could not find boot device" are indicative of a failing hard disk drive. yes, reinstalling the os could help (for a time).

If you run a scandisk and it comes up with bad sectors, then I would seriously recommend thatyou backup all needed data immediately, and replace that hard disk drive as soon as you can.

Hehe, u want a utility that will give u a list of all your system problems AND tell u how to fix 'em? I'd like something like that myself, and I also would like it to fix those problems as well, while we r at it :))
On a more serious note-yes, there r various diagnostics utilities ,but they won't give u exactly what u ask for...But one thing that is obvious from your post is that your HD is probably going bad. Just search various software downloads sites for "Hard drive diagnostics"-the list of such programs is way too long to write in here.(Norton Utilities has a diagnostics util in it,and u should consider going to the HD manufacturer site and look for such a util there ,since it's best when u use the manufacturer's own products in these matters). But in the meanwhile-u have one such diagnostics utility already ,which is ScanDisk, and it gave u the verdict.Think about backing up, if possible, and replacing the HD.
As for the printer and Internet problems-more detailed description of the problems ,error messages etc will be very helpful in finding the solution.

Good luck.
