Windows ME Won't Restart

By cdurfee ·
I just installed Windows Me and it when I chose to restart the comp. it starts to restart, gets to a black screen and sits there with a blinking curser in the top left corner. I shut the comp. off or restart it, and turn it back on and it starts up fine doesn't run scandisk or anything.
I've updated the video drivers, sound drivers and Windows ME updates and the prob. still exsists. What are some other options to fix this problem. I've also went through the selective start up through msconfigand still no luck.
The Cpu is an AMD 266 not sure what motherboard and has Onboard video and sound drievrs. I've also reset the Bios settings, and even reinstalled ME again and the problem still isn't fixed.
Thanks

did you format the drive before you installed ME, second the machine might not beable to suppoert ME ,you did not say how much ram you have.how long have you let it sit here with the cursor flashing it might take a while to start up since its such aslow computer. also check every device under device manager to see if there are any conflicts. this would be the first thing to check as it seems to me some device is trying to start and not doing so so ME is sitting there tring to figure it out.tryholdind down the connrtol key, when the start up menue appears select option 4 as it starts this will take you into selective start up so you can see what loads and when. if all else fails you can losd windws 98 on this machine as ME is nothing special anyway over hyped by microsoft . and it writes to disk a log file a that could take up to 1gb of your hard drive. if you want media player seven you can down load that on to 98.looking in book and minum req for ME are 166 pentium and 64mb memory. if your computer will boot from cd windows me has a repair Me option on start up , it could be that your hard drive is failing also on such a old computer.

I don't mean to be flip, but, go back to win98 second edition. Less problems, and most likely all your software will run with it. Your machine will be faster too.
