Windows Media Player doesn't play music or vidoes

By artzelda ·
WMP Version 10 does not play .wmv files or downloaded video from or any other web site. I can't figure this out. WMV and mp3 files are checked off as a recognized file. Running WIn XP Pro on a dual core machine with 2gig memory and the NVIdia GeForce 7800 GTX vi???deo card. Any ideas what I can do to fix this

Question, are you getting any error messages?

from my experience, that happened to me once, I could not fix it, but when the day came for me to reformat my computer and reinstall XP, guess what Media Player worked right.... !!!!!

WINAMP works perfectly

by ysrael737 In reply to

I have searched through the MS documentation and all points to external services from live search in order to find the infamous (50)codec

I may have not looked very thorouhgly but so far, neither their search engine or the articles are much of a help

I have also tried to open the file with another program such as Winamp and the file opened PERFECTLY

So far, I have not identified the codec in order to download and install it properly

Does someone knows anything else about this??

MS Media Player and Nvidia are obviously not compatible and Codecs are so varied and complicated to get sorted I have given up and gone back to using a 386 it works better
