windows media player has odd playback (chipmunk like)

When windows media player is used for music playback, the sound is “chipmunk, alvin!!, like. It is NOT the playback speed, i tried this. The vocals sound speeded up, but the music is fairly normal. Any suggestion are appreciated in advance.
