Windows Mobile Application Development

By dlauxx ·
I have a hp iPAQ Pocket PC, and am trying to develop some applications on Windows Mobile 5.0 and/or Pocket PC 2003 platform. I am using Windows XP as my development platform, no previous SDK is installed on this PC.

Grateful if someone here could tell me what tools I need to use. I intend to use eMbedded Visual Basic (or eMbedded C++ ?, which one is more appropriate?). What SDK and other tools do I need?

I found Microsoft Development Resources WEB site has too much information that a novice like me won't understand at all.

.net CE development

by Qantm In reply to Windows Mobile Applicatio ...

Hi dlauxx, Assuming that your going to be using Visual Studio 2005, you will need the following files:

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition SDK

Microsoft ActiveSync 4.0+ (Current version: 4.2)**73a-28bf-4cac-a682-58d3233efb4c&displaylang=en

Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK for Pocket PC**55-717CBE5D25ED&displaylang=en

.NET Compact Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 Redistributable

.net Compact Framework 2.0, 5.0 Mobile SDK, and ActiveSync are also in the following package:

Windows Mobile 5.0 Developer Resource Kit

This should get you started... once you get all these items installed then you can get started on your application.

What is the use of .NET Compact Framework

by dlauxx In reply to .net CE development

Thanks a lot Qantm.

How about the programming language? Say Visual Basic or Visual C++ (eMbedded VB/eMbedded VC++ ?). Are they included in the SDK?

With regard to .NET Compact Framework, Microsoft Website indicates that it is s subset of the full .NET Framework class library, is it that it is a library like runtime library? WHat is it for?

Many thanks again

How to proceed

by daly.hammadi In reply to Windows Mobile Applicatio ...

Depending on the version of your pocket platform you will be able to proceed. I mean firstly you will need to check if the platform of your pocket is 2003 or 2005.
- If it is 2003 no need for others SDKs to start.
- If it's 2005 you will need the suitable SDK from here**55-717cbe5d25ed&displaylang=en&Hash=ROflLpbIDX4DtputncKa1TrWH%2bqUwXpQhBH7J9v%2fqqEUgCO4hQ%2boRCnbGK6SCJHmbrq1d4vz3NI5aIZ89ZpXwA%3d%3d

For both 2003 and 2005 you will need:
- A software called ActiveSync from here
- You will need also to install Compact framework
