Windows Mobile Application Development

By dlauxx ·
I have a hp iPAQ Pocket PC running WinCE 4.20.

I like to develop some applications on this Pocket PC and learnt that I could use Windows Mobile 5.0 Development Platform.

Grateful if anyone could tell me what SDK, programming language (eMbedded Visual Basic? or eMbedded C++?) and other tools that I could use. I would start with a simple program like "Hello Worls" to get myself familiar with the environment first.

I found that the Microsoft Developer Resources Website has too MUCH information that it is of no use to a novice like me.

.Net 2.0 CE Development

by Qantm In reply to Windows Mobile Applicatio ...

Hi dlauxx, Assuming that your going to be using Visual Studio 2005, you will need the following files:

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition SDK

Microsoft ActiveSync 4.0+ (Current version: 4.2)

Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK for Pocket PC

.NET Compact Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 Redistributable

.net Compact Framework 2.0, 5.0 Mobile SDK, and ActiveSync are also in the following package:

Windows Mobile 5.0 Developer Resource Kit

This should get you started... once you get all these items installed then you can get started on your application.

What Use of .NET Compact Framework

by dlauxx In reply to .Net 2.0 CE Development

Thanks a lot, Qantm.

How about the programming language? Say Visual Basic/eMbedded Visual Basic. Would that be included in the Resource Kit, or in the SDK?

What is the use of the .NET Compact Framework for? According to Microsoft website, the .NET Compact Framework is a subset of .NET Framework class library, so it is like the Visual Basic/Visual C# runtime library?

Many thanks again.
