Window's Multimedia Player Replacement

By waterwolf28 ·
At present I'm running win98se as my OS. I also have Windows Multimedia Player 7 as my default music/video player. The problem is that half of the time it does not open most of the files that get sent to me. It keeps informing me that it can't open the files because of an error, but it doesn't state what the error is. I'd like to find a replacement for the Windows Multimedia Player, but the replacement has to open all the files that windows Multimedia player is suppose to or more. Can any one make any suggestions. I donb't mind paying for it as long as its not too much. Any help would be greatly appreated.

Well, without upgrading to windows 2000 or XP to get Media Player 9,10,or even 11 beta, you may try Media Player Classic v.6.4.9.0. Don't know how it will do and there is a download for 9x machines provided. Seriously consider upgrading. Media files are only going to get more complex!
Hope this helps.

Media player 9 should work fine on your PC.
Make sure to download and install the codec pack.

However, I recommend that you give Winamp a try.

Winamp is skinnable and can play nearly every media format.

If Winamp does not support a file format you need, there should be a plug-in that you can download to add that format.

I had the same issue with Windows Media Player. I found VLC Media Player. It's non intrusive, won't hog processors or leave spyware and it's free...all of it.

You can download Ace DivX Player http://www.sharewareplaza.com/Ace-DivX-Player-downloads_349.html, it is really cool.
