Windows Network Malfunctioning

By filipne2 ·
I have one Win NT 4.0 Workstation PC and 4 Windows 98 PC. Network connection is dead (i.e. shared network resoursec are not accessible ) either after logging on or at some time later. For example a started program on Win98 PC that uses shared database on Win NT causes errors because at some time after starting it loses its shared resourse on Win NT. What should I do to solve this annoying problem ?
Thank you in advance

I wasn't done with my previous answer. Check all hardware. I am not sure what kind of network you have. Assuming you have a star topology. If all computers are dropping off, check the hub. If one is dropping off check cables 1st, then check the network card. Even if it looks fine you might try changing the cards I/O address, then test. Try to find which system is loosing connection. When it screws up one or more computer(s) will probable only see themselves on the network. These are the problemones.

Yes I have a star topology. UTP cables and Repotek RP 1659K hub. My net cards and the hub do not have thir own testing programs.
Please provide me with simple methods for checking cables, cards and the hub.
Thank you in advance

The first answer looks good to me. If that doesn't work, try something else. Hope this helps.
