Noticing large packets being resent when using windows networking over tcp/ip (from a Windows XP Pro machine with all service packs applied running a MA2-VM board, 2 gig of ddr2667 memory, AMD X2 4ghz, onboard Pci-X gigabit Ethernet).
Pushing a large file (lets say 1 gig) to Windows 2003 Server machine (non AD) caused the (netstat -s) to show a tremendous number of packets being resent (more than sent and received combined)
The strange thing is if I pull that same file back down onto the machine, then there is a tiny bit of resending occurring (under 10 packet being resent)
Thought it was a physical/driver issue and updated the network drivers, then replaced cat6 cables, then network card (onboard to USR gigabit), then dlink gigabit switch with a 3com switch. Still saw the same issue when pushing files.
Thought maybe it was machine specific, so swap the machine (to a P5LD2 intel Dual core 3ghz with 1 gig of ram and a onboard Pci-X network card also runing Winows XP pro).. Still same issue.
Tried pushing the file to a diferent machine (another windows XP pro). Same issue. Reversed the push/pull so the other machine was the one pushing and pulling.. Resends still causing major TCP packet resens.
The only thing that I can see, is that the network bandwidth when pushing the file is greater than when pulling the file with about the same time to push/pull the file (+/- 10 secs)
I am completely stumped
Anyone run into similar issues and have some idea of why this is occurring, and if there is any thing that can be done to better trouble shoot the issue, and/or fix it
