WINDOWS NT 4.0 server dialup

By elchulo00 ·
When trying to dialup into the server, who's configured as a single, workgroup server, my win9x machines pop up a message that states that I have to enter the user name, password, and domain. This has not happened before, and I'm going nuts trying to find out what the **** the problem is, any help would be appreciated.

When the box pops up there should be a checkbox that tells the computer to remember the password. If not, then try right-clicking on Network Neighborhood and selecting "Windows Logon" from the dropdown box under Primary Network Logon.

In a workgroup setting each server computer requires a local account for all users that access resources, since there is no centralized domain account management. You can either configure the server to allow all users access anonymously or you can create an account on the server for each user. If use use the second option you will need to put \\servername in the domain option on the dialup dialogue box.

In the DUN settings on the Win9x clients, you probably have the option selected to "Log on to network". You should probably remove this option. The previous post is correct in that you need a user account for each user to connect. You can put in a valid user and password and leave the domain name blank. That should let the users log in too.
