Windows nt 4.0 unable to share

By kashmeir63 ·
Hi,
I have a windows nt4.0 server on a nt4.0 network.
For no reason at all(nothing added or removed on the server) the server stopped sharing all files when they are suppose to be shared. And they do show being shared on that server.I can ping theserver by name and ip(no problems).
I get the following message when trying to access it over the network: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer....
The ipc$ is running. I've tried many things but nothing worked. I've scanned for viruses stop and started services, checked policies, etc...Has anyone come across this and how they resolved it. Any help would be appreciated.....

Have you checked your event logs for any sort of errors? One similar situation I've run into is where an NT 4.0 server stopped serving up files due to a licensing issue. The server had run out of licenses for the number of simultaneous users.

Check in your Services whether "Server" & "Workstation" services are running. Check to see that their startup tupe uses System accounts and not any admin accounts(to avoid dependencies when passwords are changed).
Run the recent Service Pack or over-write the Service Pack that is installed on the NT Server and restart the Server.
This should resolve the issue. Best Luck

Another thing to check would be the server's computer account on the domain. If it's a member server, you could try unjoining the domain, deleting the server's machine account on the PDC, wait a few minutes, rejoin the domain and recreate the machine account. Hope this helps!
