Windows NT Domain Controller

The first thing I would check is to see if anyone could have built a PDC or promoted a BDC to a domain controller.

I would imagine, this could also be someone experimenting with Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server running dcpromo.

You should be able to use server manager to find the errant server that is taking over your domain and shut it down. Your PDC should show up transparent while the errant PDC should be colored properly.

In a worst case, shut down the PDC that you know about and check if you can still logon. If so (which I suspect should be the case), you should be able to find the domain controller that is causing problems.
