Windows NT VPN Problem

By jkeav634 ·
I am attempting to link 2 sites through sonicwall vpn devices. Site A has a windows nt 4.0 pdc with an address of 192.168.2.15 and site B has a BDC with an address of 192.168.3.4. The 2 servers can ping each other by both name and ip address. I can see the pdc in network neighborhood on the BDC, but cannot see the BDC in network neighborhood on the PDC. I can map drives between the servers as well. My problem is that I am trying to add workstations to the domain from site b (BDC) and am receiving error that the domain cannot be contacted. I can ping both the pdc and BDC from the workstation and can map drives but cannot log into the domain.
I have setup wins server and tried lmhosts files as per microsoft ith the same result. Another thing is that if I disconnect the BDC from the network, I don't see any user information in user manager for domains. My goal is to have the workstations at site b logon through the bdc. what should else should I check

If you havn't done this make sure WINS replication is configured on both servers. When a workstation is added to a domain, is gets domain information from WINS which holds the PDC record in it. If you are not running wins then at least make sure its running on the PDC. Go into the TCP/IP setting and poing both entries (NT 4 workstation) or the WINS ip address to the PDC. That should make this process go a little better.

My recommendation would be put WINS in both locations and setup replication.

Good Luck!

Syncronization is not happening between the PDC &BDC.
