Windows NT Workstation 4.0

By ufocrash47 ·
I got to work Windows NT Workstation 4.0 on a pc. After installing MSOFFICE
PREMIUM 2000 and Micosoft Visual Studio 6.0, the workstation crashed. It also had Norton Utilities 2001 on it.
The pc consists of E-POX 7KXA mainboard,
QUANTUM FIREBALL 13 GB HDD,
128 MB PC-100, AMD K7 ATHLON, SONY 10/4/32 CDRW, AND NTFS FILE SYSTEM.
WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED TO CRASH ?

How many partition You have made on the HDD. If all the partitons are with NTFS, Singly booting your NT or You have dual booting..
Check first Your VGA Chip Setting.. (BY using ERD) System may be crashed after installing Visual Studio with wrong VGA Chip driver.

Service Pack

Have you installed any service packs. Office 2000 will need at least sp3 or more. I would go for sp6a and your problem should go away.

I agree

One way of troubleshooting is to go back to where you were before you installed these programs. Then install them one by one and test it. It could have been something as simple as a glitch during the installation of one or more of your programs. I personally don't like to use Norton Utilities. It's been my experience that it causes more crashes than it prevents. (Personal Experience) Install the Office and Visual Studio first. Then test the system. Then install Norton and see what happens. I have also seen that some things need to be installed in a certain order to work correctly. It has to do with the way they update your system files. Some programs may put older versions of some files without giving you an option or not.
