I wonder if anyone else has seen the problem I have observed in recent weeks?
On my PC at work I have my screensaver (I’m currently using “Helios (OpenGL)”) set to display the Windows logon page so that I have to enter my password when I return to my desk. Anyway, sometimes it takes it’s time to jump when I return and move the mouse. Often Helios stops making its pretty patterns, but I just see my wallpaper (sans desktop) for anything up to several minutes before the logon screen pops up, almost forcing a reboot. However, if I Ctrl-Alt-Del then Task Manager tells me the Windows logon process is running twice BUT my screen also allows me a brief view of what I was working in before the screensaver cut in. Not only that, I am even able to work during those couple of seconds! If I was in Word, for example, I can type a few letters in that space of time!
This appears to me to mean that the password protection offers quite a lopphole. Not only can anyone sneek a peek at what was on screen “behind” the screensaver, but they can even access my work!
Obviously this isn’t necessarily a major problem in my office environment, but it COULD be.
Has anyone else observed such behaviour, and would you say it is due to a fault in Windows (still running Windows XP SP2) or in the screensaver (although it does seem to occur with various screensavers)?
