We have 6 Windows XP Pro computers, all the same make and model running. They are part of an AD 2003 domain. They access several network shares and a server program as part of their duties. 4 of the machines are performing flawlessly, but the other 2 are very inconsistent. All users are located in the same OU in AD, and are all basic users. As an example I will use UserA and UserB. They are both logging on to MachineA, which is being weird. If UserA logs on, they get a path not found error to one of the start up programs (local install). If UserB logs in, it works, as it should. An Admin account never has problems, so I am guessing its permissions related. MachineB is set up identical to MachineA, and UserA log in to it with no problems at all.
What could be causing this inconsistent error? Permissions are assigned based on domain\group membership. All of these computers are run through a HUB (I know I know, but it will all be rewired at the end of Jan when we move the whole center), and that hub runs into a second hub, which runs into the core switch. Could this be a network issue, in which case I am hosed until the end of January? Or what else?
