Windows Protection Error

Unlike the others who experience a Windows Protection Error message on startup, I get it when I shut down. I have not experienced anyother problems while the computer is running. Any idea's

Sounds like you may be running something in the background when trying to shut down, perhaps a virus scanner. Also you didn't mention your Windows version. If 98SE, you may need the shutdown patch, available from Microsoft. Click on IE5 Tools/Windows Update and download/install the patch.

The problem was Norton Anti Virus. When I am ready to shut the system down. I first shut down Norton. The system goes down without any further problems.

Try deleting (or renaming) the smartdrv.* file if you use Win 9x.
