Windows protection mode-error in OS!

By frank.deak ·
A users pc would only come up in safe mode(msg would display that windows was going into protection mode). Any attempt to restart
after being safe mode would give error while
init OS and only put you in safe mode.

In safe mode I saw no errors, could do all functions. What corrupted the OS? Virus/Reg?

It is hard to say what corrupted your system due to lack of the information. You can do regscan and go back to the date when your system worked OK.

Protection errors are usually caused by a corrupted device driver, or hardware problem. Check the following articles at support.microsoft.com for step-by-step instructions on how to isolate the problem: Q136337 and Q188867.

You have not provided enough information but you can check any new hardware, drivers, or software that has been added recently. When in safe-mode a lot of drivers etc are not loaded so I would lopk into updating your drivers.

Is it a protection error in IOS? This could be caused by a bug in windows 95b and later on AMD systems. There is a fix at microsoft.com for this.

But if not, ic could be a registry thing, as mentioned before, and I would check that unless it isa brand new install of windows, at which case I would look at your RAM.
