Windows Remote Desktop via Internet???

By onlinegeek101 ·
I was wondering does anyone know how to set up windows remote desktop via the internet apposed to a LAN. I have windows xp media center so it has the remote desktop capability but i don't know how to make it work over the web. If anyone could link me to a good like walkthrough or if they could just write me a quick walk thought of what i have to do that would be great thanks.

Chances are you're behind a NATing firewall/router to the ports would probably need setting up on there.

Did you try looking at LogMeIn ( They provide remote access over the browser, secured with SSL and - best of all - free!

forward ports

Two things.

first if you are using a router you must forward your port 3389 to your computer. instruction are different for different routers. google port forwarding and your router

second if you are using a software firewall (kaspersky, norton, comodo, ect.) you must open port 3389 in your firewall. also different for each product. check with the vendor.
