Windows Server 2000 Decommission

by leem . Updated 18 years, 9 months ago

I’m in the process of decommissioning a Windows 2000 Server. I’ve run adprep on the W2K server, and established a VM running Windows Server 2003 to act as a AD backup and secondary DNS. I understand that prior to wiping the W2K server I need to transfer the 5 roles to the Win2003 server I have setup, but I’m wondering about the DNS. The Win2003 server is currently running as a secondary. I will need to convert it over to a primary before nuking the old Win2K server.

Anyone know how this is accomplished? Do I need to even worry about it if the DNS is using Active Directory Integration? Or should I covert it to text file type and just export all the zones to files and put them back on the new server once it’s operational?? Thanks
