Hello, I’ve currently run in to a slight problem that I can’t resolve.
I’m currently setting up a small network at my place of work, it consists of 1 Server running on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise R2, and 10 workstations running on Microsoft Windows XP Professional with SP2. They’re connected via a modem router. Basically I’ve installed a Domain Controller on the server to centrally manage the workstations, I’ve configured and setup the DNS correctly and allowing the workstations to use the modem router as a DHCP server. As always I test my work prior to making nay further changes, and was able to logon to the domain via the workstations successfully.
I’ve now decided to implement a security policy for the users using Group Policy Management with SP1 that I downloaded from Microsoft, and I also did some research prior to using the MMC add-in as I’ve not implemented a Group Policy before. Anyway, all was going smooth! I’d even managed to pre-configure the policy settings e.g. Remove shutdown from Start Menu. Shortly after trying to implement the policy, all went wrong. I tried adding it to the node “Domain Controllers”, and then tried logging in via a workstation to see if changes had taken effect… nothing, the shutdown button was still on the start menu. Furthermore I tried to troubleshoot as I often do, and decided to edit the “Default Domain Policy”… repeated the login process, and the policy still haven’t implemented.
I did some research and tried running “gpupdate” on the remote workstations, and on the server. CMD opens and I’m prompted with “Refreshing Policy”, and then I try re-logging in to the domain via the workstations and still no results. I’ve rebooted the server, I’ve checked delegation and ensured that the users, and groups that I with to apply the policy too are listed and checked the attributes to see if the policy is applied.
I’d appreciate any help or advise to resolve this tedious problems.
