Windows Server 2003 Print Server Very Slow

By seth.wilschutz ·

We recently switched from a Windows 2000 server to Windows Server 2003 Standard Ed. SP2. The print server (shared printers using the Print Server Role) is substantially slower than it was under Windows 2000.

Any thoughts on why it would be so much slower?

The printers are set up via TCP/IP ports and the print server is also the file server and domain controller (as was the previous machine which never had this speed issue).

Thanks in advance,

Slow Printing 2003

by cjones In reply to Windows Server 2003 Print ...

We have the same problem, multiple servers. Since moving users to a new 2003 R2 server (non Cluster) the printing queues 5 time longer then on 2000 server. PS drivers seem to help some but nothing near what it used to be. It seems like it's a bandwidth issue only allowing small blocks to build up in the queue yet I can move a 50 MB file in about 3-4 second on the Gigabit network. FYI printers are only on the 100MB JetDirect cards. Any resolution known?
